    Overview

    On some Windows 10 and Windows 11 devices the Twingate Windows Client version 1.0.14 fails to to read previously saved data from the secure storage. As a result, the Twingate Client application’s dependency of the Twingate Service is not able to start as expected. 

    Symptoms

    The same symptoms defined in Windows Client: System Service Is Not Running are seen in addition to the below:

    • The Twingate Service fails to start with the error:

      • error 1053: The service did not respond to start or control request in a timely fashion
    • The below errors are seen via Windows Event Viewer > Application
      • ID 1000 "Application Error"

    Troubleshooting

    1. Follow the steps found in Windows Client: System Service Is Not Running to ensure the service does in fact not start.
    2. Confirm the Windows Client version is 1.0.14.
      1. Click on the Twingate icon in the system tray, and select More > Troubleshoot. The top item returned will be the Twingate Client version.

    3. Verify the system errors exist as noted in the above symptoms.

    Resolution

    To resolve this issue, upgrade to the latest Twingate Windows Client version
