Device showing as unverified after OS major version upgrade
Last updated: September 17, 2026
If a user's device is showing as unverified after upgrading to a new major OS version, this is likely because the new major OS version has not been explicitly allowed in your Device Trust profile.
How OS version settings work in Device Trust
In Twingate's Device Trust configuration, major OS versions function as an allowed versions list rather than a simple minimum version floor. For each major OS version you allow, you can additionally set a minimum minor version requirement.
For example:
You allow major version
27— devices running macOS 27.x will be trusted. You can then set a minimum minor version of
27.1.0— devices running27.0.xwould not meet the requirement, while those on27.1.0or later would.
This means that whenever a new major OS version is released (e.g., macOS 27), it must be explicitly added to your allowed versions list before devices running that version can be verified.
Resolving the issue
If a user's device is failing verification after an OS upgrade, follow these steps:
Log in to the Twingate Admin Console.
Navigate to your Device Trust profile.
Find the OS version settings and add the new major OS version (e.g., macOS 27) as an allowed version.
Save your changes.
Once the new major version is added, affected users should be able to have their devices verified successfully.
